What Should I Do This Summer?!

June 27, 2013
  • Head home and get a great job!
    • Coming home for the summer means not having to pay for housing, having your own room, and being able to save up money for the following school year.
    • Find a job that pays well!
      • Try being a server at a restaurant or work at a clothing store in the mall.
        • Many restaurants and retail stores tend to have a quick turnover.  This means that they are constantly hiring new workers.
        • This can help you expand your social skills.
  • Volunteer
    • Find something that interests you!
    • Volunteering is something that can make anyone feel good.
    • Places you could volunteer at:
      • Senior care facilities
      • You can also volunteer in places that have been struck by natural disasters around the globe! (i.e. a mission trip)
      • English Translation for non-profits (i.e. at multicultural organizations and helping foreign workers process their paperwork)
  • Take extra classes in your field of study! (i.e. at summer school)
    • Some high schools offer summer school programs during the summertime which can help you get ahead in school.
    • Especially, if you are a senior in high school, colleges may recruit you over the summer to take a class or two.
    • Another summer program that may be offered is an English/SAT/TOEFL crash course.
      • This is a requirement for all international students to take and pass before being able to attend school here in the U.S.
  • Travel!
    • Explore the U.S.
    • Some popular places to travel to are Los Angeles, CA, New York City, NY, Chicago, IL, Miami, FL.
